5 Synchro Swimmers Earn All-American Honors

SAN ANTONIO -- University of the Incarnate Word student-athletes Beatriz Regly, Sarah Rodriguez, Camille Guerre, Natalia Vega, and Madeline Walker-Byron were recognized for their All-American status. The Cardinals were among just 20 collegiate student-athletes to earn the honor this year. 

"[The team] brought a new level of competition that brought recognition from judges, spectators, and competitors while adding to our all-American numbers and earning the program's first D1 All-Collegiate recognition," said head coach Elizabeth Gerdin. "These ladies have brought UIW to the top." 

BEATRIZ REGLY: ALL-AMERICAN RECIPIENT, ALL-COLLEGIATE TEAM 
Regly, a senior and a veteran to Cardinals synchro, is originally from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She is studying business and will be staying in San Antonio following graduation. In the 2017-18 season, Regly was a member of the Red squad team routine, duet, and trio routine. At US Collegiate Nationals in Oro Valley, Arizona, she placed second in the A technical element event. 

SARAH RODRIGUEZ: ALL-AMERICAN RECIPIENT 
Rodriguez is a sophomore rehabilitative science major from San Antonio. She was a member of the US National team before coming to UIW and has been a strong addition to the Cardinals' roster. This season, she swam in the team event, trio, and duet routine. 

CAMILLE GUERRE: ALL-AMERICAN RECIPIENT 
Guerre is a junior majoring in mathematics and accounting with a minor in actuarial sciences and computer information systems. A native of France, Guerre came to UIW after being a member of the French National Synchronized Swimming team. At US Collegiate Nationals in 2017-18, she placed third in the solo competition. This season she competed in the team event, solo and duet routine. 

MADELINE WALKER-BYRON: ALL-AMERICAN RECIPIENT 
Walker-Byron hails from Ottawa, Ontario, and is a junior majoring in sociology. In the 2017-18 season, she swam in the team routine, duet, and trio competition. Walker-Byron was a member of the Canadian National team for several years, and has brought a strong skillset to the Cardinals. 

NATALIA VEGA: ALL-AMERICAN RECIPIENT 
Vega is a sophomore from Puerto Rico who is majoring in criminal justice. During the 2017-18 season, she competed in the Red squad team routine. Before coming to UIW, Vega was an active member of the US National team. While with the US National team, she competed in multiple countries, including China and Finland. This past summer she competed at the FINA World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
