WICHITA, Kan. – University of the Incarnate Word sophomore catcher Kyle Bergeron was named to the Johnny Bench Award watch list, released on Mar. 7 by the Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission. The honor is given annually to the top catcher in Division I baseball.
 
Bergeron's selection is the second in as many seasons for the Bridge City, Texas native. He was named to the prestigious list on May 4, last season.
 
Bergeron has been solid behind the plate for the Cardinals, posting a 1.000 fielding percentage without registering a single error. He currently leads UIW in hits (20), RBIs (15), runs (9), doubles (4), stolen bases (3), home runs (2) and slugging percentage (.612). He is also second on the team in batting average (.408). Bergeron ranks fifth nationally in sacrifice flies (3) and 23^rd in hits.
 
The watch list will be narrowed down to the semifinalists, which will be announced May 16. Ballots will be sent to the national voting panel at the end of May for a vote to determine the three finalists. The finalists will be announced June 4. A final vote among the national committee will occur during the College World Series. All finalists will be brought to Wichita and the winner will be announced at the 21st Annual Greater Wichita Sports Banquet June 28.
