AUSTIN, TEXAS – School records fell for
Garett Cortez,
Jerica Love and the men's DMR over the first two days of competition at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.
Rodney Littlejohn and
Madison Miles' new school records in the multis sparked the Cardinals at the Texas State Bobcat Invitational.
LEADERS
Jerica Love had an impressive tenth place finish out of eighty-five competitors in the 100H. She crossed the line in 13.54 to finish behind athletes from the University of Texas, Louisiana State and Arkansas.
Deja Keys ran a collegiate best 12.18 in the 100m for a solid performance at the relays.
Sarea Alexander placed second in the triple jump with a leap of 12.55m/41-2.25.
At Texas State,
Madison Miles won the women's heptathlon with 4797 points for a new school record. Miles finished top three in six out of her seven events to crush the four-year old record by 341 points.
Brianna Blagowsky recorded a mark of 34.95m/114-0.66 for a new PR in the hammer throw.
Erekha Sebastion led the UIW quarter-milers with a 56.77 for eighth place.
Kalia Hendrix showed improvement with a new collegiate best of 59.42.
Jane Arinze set a new personal best mark (5.64m/18-0.53) to place eighth.
On the men's side,
Garett Cortez posted a time of 14:37.68 to finish eleventh in the men's 5000m. He bettered the top mark he set at the J Fred Duckett Twilight Meet last season by thirty-five hundredths of a second.
Jorge Quintero had strong season opener in the 1500. He took fifth in 3:52.18, which is nine seconds faster than what he ran around this time last season.
Cortez and Quintero helped
Jordan Cherin and
Collin Sepulveda break the school record in the DMR for the second year in a row at the Texas relays. The squad finished four seconds faster (9:55.85) than it did last year to take sixth.
Collin Sepulveda recorded a 53.60 in the 400H for a new PR.
Clinton Cole posted a time of 10.57 in the 100m for a solid season debut in the event.
Rodney Littlejohn stepped up for the men's team at Texas State. Littlejohn set seven new PR's (100, 400, 110H, discus, pole vault, javelin, 1500) to claim the record by 59 points and finish second overall.
Terry Sims posted a personal best time of 10.87 in the 100m.
David Gallegos rounded the track in 56.22 for a new PR in the 400H, while
Christopher Hernandez posted a 56.58 in his first shot at the event.
Adam Herrera won the men's 3000 steeplechase with a ten second PR of 9:23.93.
UP NEXT
The Cardinals have another full day of competition tomorrow. Action at the Bobcat Invitational begins at 9 a.m. with the women's javelin. The women's 4x100 relay will be the first running event of the day at 3 p.m.
