STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – For the third-straight year, the University of the Incarnate Word fencing teams will be represented at the NCAA Championships, held Mar. 22-25 at the Bryce Jordan Center on the campus of Penn State University.

Senior Alexander Sless, a San Antonio native out of Clark High School, makes his third-straight appearance on the big stage. He received an automatic bid after winning the Men's Epee Western Conference championship with a 6-1 record two weeks ago in California. For his efforts, Sless was named All-Conference.

At last season's NCAA Championships, Sless won 10 bouts to finish 16th out of 24 competitors. As a sophomore in 2015-16, Sless was the lone representative at the NCAA championships in the Cardinals' inaugural season.

Renars Blumentals, a sophomore foilist from Riga, Latvia, makes his first appearance at the NCAA championships, as he was selected as an at-large participant. At the Western Conference championships two weeks ago, Blumentals earned All-Conference honors after finishing fourth overall in a very competitive field.
