FRISCO, Texas – Redshirt junior,
Sarea Alexander, has been named the Southland Conference Female Field Athlete of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
The award is the first for Alexander, who is a MacArthur High School product, and the reigning SLC Indoor Female Field Athlete of the Year.
With her gold medal-winning leap of 6.22m/20-4 in the long jump over the weekend at the UIW Spring Break Invitational, which set a stadium record, Alexander leads the Southland Conference and is ranked second in the nation in the event, only trailing a two-time All-American from Purdue. Following that performance, Alexander finished first in the triple jump (12.34m/40-4), defeating the second-place finisher by nearly two meters and leads the Southland Conference in that category by .12m.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Rabea Schoneborn was named Female Track Athlete of the Week, while UIW's
Tiffani Mays earned Honorable Mention honors. On the men's side, Northwestern's State's Michael McGruder was named Track Athlete of the Week, while Southeastern Louisiana's Devin King earned Field accolades.
