CYPRESS, Texas – The University of the Incarnate Word women's golf team finished fifth overall at the HBU Husky Intercollegiate on Tuesday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
All five UIW golfers placed within the top 40.
Lauren Mancha tied for 19
th with a total score of 235 (+19), behind rounds of 76, 80 and 79. Just one stroke off her pace was
Madison Frerking, who finished with rounds of 84, 72 and 80 for a total of 236 (+20).
Charlotte Davis and
Elodie Yates tied at 26
th, each shooting 238 (+22).
The three-round scores for the Cardinals were 316, 306 and 320 for a total of 942 (+78). UIW finished ahead of McLennan, McNeese, Oklahoma City, Prairie View A&M, Texas A&M-Kingsville and Texas Southern.
Lamar and Houston Baptist tied for first place with a score of 912 (+48). Lamar shot rounds of 304, 301 and 307, while host Houston Baptist three rounds were 299, 306 and 307. Sam Houston came in third with a 921 (+57).
After three rounds of play, Hannah Alberto (Sam Houston) sat at the top of the leaderboard as the individual winner of the invitational. She was the only player in the field to shoot under par with a final score of 213 (-3). Her three rounds were 74, 67 and 72.
