GAINESVILLE, Fla.— The UIW Synchronized swimming team traveled to Florida this weekend to compete at the South Regional Championship, where they swept competition and won the Overall High Point Award.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Saturday's competition led off with UIW taking first in the Trio Finals, scoring 73.6333. The Cardinals then went on to place first and second out of the nine routines entered in the Duet competition, with
Camille Guerre and
Beatriz Regly scoring 78.2667.
Sarah Rodriguez and
Madeline Walker-Byron scored right behind with a score of 75.5333.
Camille Guerre topped out the Solo Finals competition, scoring a 77.3000 overall.
Team Finals resulted in UIW's team routine of
Rebecca Barlow,
Camille Guerre,
Sara Jaumandreu,
Alexandra McGee,
Beatriz Regly,
Sarah Rodriguez,
Natalia Vega, and
Madeline Walker-Byron taking first with a score of 79.9333. The Cardinals' second team scored 76.2667 to earn second place, the team consisting of
McKenna Armstrong-VanLaar,
Madison Craney,
Alexandria Jenkins,
Lauren Rein,
Rachel Rosolowski,
Kathleen Sundin,
Nevada Ulmer, and
Juliette Waslen.
In the A Element routine,
Natalia Vega dominated with a score of 77.0544, with teammates
Madeline Walker-Byron and
Camille Guerre placing behind with scores of 75.7981 and 75.7115, respectively.
Rebecca Barlow excelled in the B Element routine competition, taking first with a score of 69.3912.
Rachel Rosolowski took second with a score of 65.1122, while
Nevada Ulmer scored third with a 64.4014 overall.
On Sunday the Cardinals competed in a dual meet with University of Florida, where they took first in the Trio competition with a score of 78.9750. UIW also placed first and second in the Team competition.
UP NEXT
The Cardinals prepare for the 2018 U.S. Collegiate National Championship in Oro Valley, Arizona at the end of March. The final meet schedule has yet to be confirmed.
