FRISCO, Texas – University of the Incarnate Word receiver Jamari Gilbert was named to the 2017 Southland Conference Football All-Academic Team, the league office announced Tuesday.
 
A native of Baytown, Gilbert racked up 21 receptions for 237 receiving yards before an injury cut his final collegiate season short. He averaged 11.3 yards per catch and 33.9 yards per game as a wide out for the Cardinals. Gilbert also played a significant role on special teams, totaling 423 yards on 21 kick returns.
 
A graduate student and Business Administration major, Gilbert was as talented in the classroom as he was on the field, posting a 3.8 GPA. He was named to the Southland Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll in 2014, 2015 and 2016.
