FAIRBANKS, Alaska- The University of the Incarnate Word women's swimming team traveled to Fairbanks, Alaska this past Friday and Saturday for two dual meets versus The University of Alaska Fairbanks.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Â
On day one, the Cardinals swept Alaska Fairbanks 106-84 points.
Â
The women started the meet with a win in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:53.95. The relay consisted of
Natasha Fung,
Mariana Ruvalcaba Cruz,
Cassandra Phillips, and
Paulina Zelazna.
Â
The Cardinals earned five first-place finishes in individual events.
Â
Freshman,
Mariana Ruvalcaba Cruz, earned first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:55.31. Teammate and Senior,
Leia Bates touched in second behind her with a time of 1:56.99.

Junior,
Mariana Olguin, finished in first in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 24.48. Freshman teammate
Kaylee Brawner finished closely behind with a time of 24.97.

Junior,
Alona Kyselova, touched the wall in first in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:08.57.

Freshman,
Cassandra Phillips earned her first place finish in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 57.10.

Freshman,
Zlata Demchenko, swam the 100-yard freestyle and finished .02 ahead of teammate,
Mariana Olguin with a time of 53.62 for a first place victory.

On day two, the Cardinals continued their winning streak by finishing with 107 points, ahead of Alaska Fairbanks' 83 points.

To start the meet the repeat-relay from the day before dominated the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:47.15.

The Cardinals earned six first place finishes.

Freshman,
Hannah Rowley proved up to the challenge and finished in first in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 17:47.32.

Zlata Demchenko earned a first place finish in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:59.71.

In the 50-yard freestyle,
Paulina Zelazna finished first with a time of 24.66.
Alona Kyselova set a new pool record in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:30.60.

Cassandra Phillips finished strong in the 200-yard butterfly and earned first place with a time of 2:11.52.

Natasha Fung, finished first in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:07.44.
