LUBBOCK, Texas – Madison Miles and Emily Davila each claimed a school record on the first day of the Texas Tech Classic & Multis. Miles had a record breaking debut in the women's pentathlon, while Davila excelled to new heights in the pole vault. (Results)

Miles surpassed the previous record set by Zariah Noyola in 2015 by 19 points. The junior out of San Marcos high school competed in the long jump, high jump and sprinting events in her first two years as a Cardinal. She took on the new challenge of competing in the pentathlon and added her name to the top of the Cardinal record book with 3128 points.

Teammates Zara Amaechi and Amiah Parson posted the third and fourth best performances in school history in the event, respectively. Amaechi totaled 3100 points and was just nine points short of matching the record. She showed solid improvements in the 60H, high jump and long jump. She also competed in the pole vault and cleared a collegiate best height of 3.37m/11-0.75. Parson summed 3061 points for the day. She scored well in the high jump as she cleared 1.66m/5-5.25 to take eighth.

Emily Davila posted her second school record for the season in the pole vault. The freshman cleared a height of 3.67m/12-0.25 to crush her previous record (3.42m/11-2.5) set just two weeks ago at the Ted Nelson Invitational. Claire Woodson and McKenna Moses both cleared 3.52m/11-6.5 to top the previous record and claim PRs in the event indoors.

Tomorrow's competition will begin at 9:30 a.m. with the men and women's shot put (B section). Action begins on the track at noon with the Olympic development section of the women's 60m.
