COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO- The University of the Incarnate Word men and women's swimming and diving team competed at the US Air Force Academy Natatorium this past Friday and Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Cardinals competed against the U.S. Air Force Academy and Seattle University.
Â
In the men's dual meet scores, The U.S. Air Force Academy men finished with 137.00 points, ahead of the UIW men's 98.00 points. The Cardinals finished on top versus Seattle University with 150.00 points to their 80.00 points.

In the women's dual meet scores, the Cardinals finished in a close second with 100.00 points to Air Force's 139.00 points, but ahead of Seattle University's 72.00 points with 159.00 points.

The men and women started the two-day meet with a win in the 400-yard medley relay.
Â
The women's relay consisted of
Natasha Fung (backstroke),
Mariana Ruvalcaba Cruz (breaststroke),
Cassandra Phillips (butterfly), and
Alona Kyselova (freestyle) and finished with a time of 3:53.00.

The men's relay consisted of
Aaron Moran (backstroke),
Connor Myerson (breaststroke),
Hector Ruvalcaba Cruz (butterfly), and
Beau Fusilier (freestyle) and finished with a time of 3:26.83.

Sophomore,
Hector Ruvalcaba Cruz, won the men's 200-yard butterfly event with a time of 1:53.17.
Â
Freshman,
Mariana Ruvalcaba Cruz, finished in first place with a time of 2:24.56 in the 200-yard breaststroke.
Alona Kyselova finished closely behind her with a time of 2:28.18.

Senior,
Leia Bates, earned a first place finish in the women's 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:21.12.
Â
Senior,
Kyrylo Shvets, finished first in both the 1000-yard and 500-yard freestyle events with times of 9:51.33 in the 1000 and 4:40.66 in the 500.

In diving,
Savanna Meadows finished on top in 1
st place with 280.80 points in the 3-meter and earned another first place finish in the 1-meter with 262.40.

Mallory Draper finished in 2
nd behind Meadows in the 3-meter with 226.40 points and fourth in the 1-meter competition with 200.00 points.
Sophomore,
Dawson Martinez, won the men's 1-meter diving with 307.26 points and came back to win the 3-meter with 311.80 points.

The Cardinals will travel to Austin to compete against some of the best teams in the country at the Austin Grand Prix January 19-20.
