ENGLEWOOD, Colo. – Seven members of the University of the Incarnate Word men's soccer team were named Academic All-Western Athletic Conference, the league announced Thursday.
Joe Brown, a senior defender from Nottingham, England, has a 3.39 cumulative GPA in business. The team captain was the only Cardinal to start in all 17 matches and he led the team with four assists and was tied for the team lead with six points. His lone goal came at HBU, which was a game winner. His 1411 minutes played were third-most on the squad among position players.
Roman Cano, a sophomore defender from Richardson, Texas, has a 3.81 GPA in finance. He appeared in 10 matches with a shot.
Roberto Diaz Fernandez is a senior defender from Madrid, Spain. He posted a 3.44 GPA in international business. On the pitch, he started in 16 matches and scored a goal at Central Arkansas. He led all position players with 1476 minutes played.
Ronan Fournier, a senior defender from Lyon, France, has a 3.35 GPA in sports management. He appeared in all 17 matches with 16 starts, with 12 shots on goal. His 1432 minutes played were the second-most on the team among position players.
Miguel Ojeda, a junior midfielder out of Mesquite, Texas, posted a 3.45 GPA in business with a minor in criminal justice. On the field, he appeared in 14 matches with eight starts, with one assist, coming against CSU Bakersfield.
Robert Pratt, a senior midfielder from Tonbridge, England, has a 3.53 GPA in rehab science with a minor in psychology. On the pitch, he played in 16 matches with nine starts, as his lone assist came at Central Arkansas.
William Redmann is a senior defender out of San Antonio's Smithson Valley High School. He posted a 3.31 GPA in business with a minor in accounting. He appeared in 13 matches with seven starts and scored a goal at HBU.
To be eligible for an academic all-conference award, a student-athlete must have completed at least one academic year at the institution, have at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA, and have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's contests.
