SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Cheerleader and dance team tryouts will be held this Saturday, September 2 at 9 a.m. from the McDermott Convocation Center.

To be a cheerleader or dance member, you must be a full-time student enrolled at UIW and have a flexible schedule outside of school.
If you would like to be Red the Cardinal, you must be 5'10" to 6'2" tall in good physical condition. You must be a full-time student enrolled at UIW and have a flexible schedule outside of school. Please contact cardinalspirit@uiwtx.edu for an interview or more information.
The perks to being on the cheer/dance team or Red include scholarships starting at $500 a semester (upon availibility);Â early registration for classes;Â athletic training assistance;Â Adidas practice gear, uniforms, shoes, bags; and a member of Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
Cheer skill requirements include the following: toe touches and elite jumps, minimal standing and running backhandsprings, group stunting with lib variations and full down, co-ed stunting toss hands.
Cheer attire for Saturday for women: black sports bra, black hot pants, tennis shoes, hair half up/half down, white bow, no jewelry, no tattoos (covered tattoos are ok), and makeup. For men: black shirt, black shorts, tennis shoes, no jewelry, no tattoos (covered tattoos are ok), well-groomed.
Dance skill requirements include the following: advanced leaps, double and triple turns, fouette turns, high kicks, ability to do jazz, pom, and hip hop.
Dance attire: black sports bra, black hot pants (no pantyhose), jaz and tennis shoes, hair down, and makeup.
