SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Head Coach
Christy Smith and the University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball program unveiled their high-powered 2017-18 schedule on Tuesday.
The campaign includes non-conference battles against Oklahoma State, Texas State, Utah, UMass, Rice, Houston and Texas Tech, along with 13 home contests at the McDermott Convocation Center.
"We have a tough non-conference schedule, not only the Power Five teams we play, but also a couple of back-to-back road games with limited recovery time," Smith said. "This will prove challenging in more ways than one. We set up our schedule to prepare us for the Southland Conference tournament, where playing back-to-back games is often the most difficult aspect. Our goal is to prepare early in the season, in order to win later in the year."
The Cardinals open their slate in Stillwater, Okla. with a matchup at Oklahoma State (Nov. 10), before a quick turnaround at UT Arlington (Nov. 11).
UIW's home-opener will come against Texas State (Nov. 15), before the squad welcomes UMHB to San Antonio (Nov. 20).
The Cardinals take on Utah in Salt Lake City (Nov. 24), before a quick turnaround at Weber State in Ogden, Utah (Nov. 25).
UIW hosts UMass (Nov. 29) and South Dakota (Dec. 4), before traveling east on I10 for dates with Rice (Dec. 9) and Houston (Dec. 18).
The Cardinals head north for a matchup at Texas Tech in Lubbock (Dec. 21), before taking a week off to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ over the Christmas holiday.
UIW opens Southland Conference action at home against McNeese (Dec. 28), and concludes the regular season against rival Abilene Christian (March 3) at The Convo.
The Southland Conference Tournament is set for March 7-11 in Katy.
