SAN ANTONIO, Texas – UIW interim Director of Athletics,
Mark Papich, has announced the hiring of
Jonas Andersson as the head men's tennis coach at UIW.
Andersson is no stranger to UIW, as he is a 1997 graduate and was later inducted into the UIW Hall of Fame, joining the inaugural class of 2005.
"I'm excited to be back in San Antonio and to have the chance to lead the tennis team at UIW," said Andersson. "I have great memories of my time here and look forward to coaching the team in this competitive division."

Andersson played tennis at UIW from 1994-97, during which time he won three national championships, becoming the first and only UIW athlete to win three national titles. In 1994, he was the Rolex men's doubles national champion, and in 1995, he won the NAIA National Singles Championship and teamed with Javier Ruiz to win the NAIA National Doubles Championship. He was an NAIA All-American in both 1995 and 1996.
Following graduation, he was a tennis professional at the San Antonio Country Club, Bent Tree Country Club in Dallas, and The Beverly Hills Hotel in California. Most recently, he was a tennis professional at the West End Racquet Club in Torrance, Calif.
Among Andersson's accolades are: Yonex Men's Open Tournament Finalist (2003), Top-Ranked Men's Open at South Bay Grand Prix (2003-04), two-time Mixed USTA National Champion (2004), and member of Sweden Men's 35+ World Cup Team (2012).
