FRISCO, Texas – Four seniors of the UIW softball team were named to the 2017 Southland All-Conference teams, the league announced Monday afternoon.
Mikaela Flores,
Danielle Ramirez, and
Christy Trevino earned spots on the Third Team, while
Alex Alonzo was named Honorable Mention.
"These honors are very well deserved," said head coach
Amanda Gamboa. "These four worked hard this season and they competed every year. They have helped build this program and their hard work will always be remembered. It is awesome to see them being rewarded for their hard work."
Flores, a designated player and outfielder from Lockhart, Texas, hit .285 while leading the team (and T-21st in the SLC) with 28 RBI. She was second on the team with 17 runs scored. She had a six-game hitting streak and had two doubles while going 3-for-4 at the plate against Lamar. Coming in as a pinch hitter against Arkansas-Pine Bluff, she hit a bases-clearing triple en route to a 3-2 win. She went 3-for-3 with a run scored, a stolen base, and a sac fly against Rhode Island.
Trevino, a catcher and designated player from San Antonio's Brandeis High School, was ranked in the top 40 in the conference with a .297 batting average. She registered a hit in 16 of the last 24 games, including six of the final eight games. She went 3-for-5 with an RBI against Lamar on April 29. She posted a .971 fielding percentage, primarily behind the plate.
