Plethora of PRs as Cardinals Compete at Rice Twilight

HOUSTON, Texas – Several personal records were set and Garett Cortez set a new school record as UIW track and field competed at the J. Fred Duckett Rice Twilight on Saturday.

LEADERS

The women's discus trio of Patricia Nintcheu-Momo, Tristyn Klein, and Brianna Blagowsky all set new PRs. Nintcheu-Momo's toss of 42.17m/138-4 is ranked eighth in the Southland Conference. Klein, who was competing unattached, threw 40.93m/134-3, and Blagowsky had a 35.39m/116-1 toss.

With a lean at the finish, Kentonie Thomas set a new PR in the men's 400m with a 48.80 to win his heat. Jamari Gilbert finished second overall with a time of 48.06, the first of two PRs for him.

In the women's 200m, both Jerica Love and Gracen Odendahl set new PRs with times of 24.76 and 24.96, respectively. Deja Keys earned a Top-20 finish with a 25.42 clocking. In the men's event, Gilbert posted a Top-15 finish with a time of 21.81, another PR.

In the men's 100m, Clinton Cole finished seventh and Jordan Epps eighth, as Cole ran a 10.75 and Epps followed with a 10.79.

Deion Hardy finished sixth overall in the men's 800m, finishing just .03 from a Top-5 placement, as he ran a season best 1:51.72. Cameron White earned a Top-10 finish with a time of 1:54.10, a new PR for the freshman. In the women's race, Dominique Allen placed second overall with a time of 2:10.58, nearly setting a school record for the second-straight week.

Cesar Moreno bettered his PR by more than 20 seconds in the 3000m steeplechase, as he ran a 9:20.39 to finish seventh. On the flip side, Damallie Ortiz finished sixth with a time of 12:02.76 in her first appearance in the event.

Garett Cortez placed second overall and was the top collegian in the men's 5000m with a time of 14:38.03, bettering his school record by nine seconds.

In the women's 100m hurdles, Jerica Love continued her dominance in the event as she sprinted to first with a time of 14.01, a new PR and the second-fastest time in school history.

In the women's high jump, Ashley Joyner finished second overall with a height of 1.62m/5-3.75, nearly setting a new season best.
