HAMMOND, La. – The University of the Incarnate Word women's tennis team earned their second Southland Conference win with a 5-2 win over Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday afternoon at the SLU Tennis Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Cardinals (5-15, 2-5 SLC) were coming off a 4-1 loss to Louisiana yesterday, but they didn't let that affect them. Just like yesterday's match, UIW won the doubles point with wins from Matea Zemunik and Rachel Sadiq at #1, 6-1, and Maria Batchinski and Alejandra Tamayo at #3, 6-3.
With a 1-0 lead after doubles, the Cardinals needed three singles wins against the Lions (3-11, 0-7 SLC). Zemunik at #1, Victoria Kareh at #3, and Batchinski at #6 all won in straight sets, while Sadiq won in a tiebreaker 10-7 to give UIW the ultimate 5-2 win.
This is the first time the Cardinals have won two conference matches in a season since moving into DI.

UP NEXT

The Cardinals will now play another conference match at New Orleans on Monday at 11 a.m.

STAY TUNED
After the three-game road trip, UIW will come back home for a pair of conference games. They'll host SFA on Saturday at 12 p.m., and Northwestern State on Sunday at 11 a.m.
