SUGAR LAND, Texas – The University of the Incarnate Word women's golf team finished eighth at the HBU Husky Invitational, led by
Shannon Douglas' strong performance.
HOW IT HAPPENED
For a fourth-consecutive tournament, the Cardinals' first round was their best round as they shot a combined 322 over the opening 18 holes. UIW turned in rounds of 329 and 324 over the final 36, finishing with a total score of 975 (+111).
The Cardinals placed eighth, beating out Creighton, UTRGV, McLennan Community College, Lubbock Christian and Texas Southern at the event. Sam Houston won the tournament, shooting rounds of 295, 297 and 300 for a total of 892 (+28). Host school HBU took second with a total of 906 (+42), followed by Texas State, with a score of 907 (+43).
Sam Houston's Gianti Mahardhika won the individual title, shooting a three-round total of 216 (E). Elodie Chapelet of Lamar came in second with a score of 219 (+3), while Hanna Alberto of Sam Houston took third with a total of 220 (+4).
LEADERS
Douglas paced UIW, finishing 33
rd with rounds of 81, 83 and 79 for a total of 243 (+27). Douglas held the 43
rd spot after 36 holes, but saved her best round for last, rising 10 spots over the final 18.
Gracie Aday was the next-highest finisher for the Cardinals, placing 36
th with rounds of 75, 86 and 84 for a score of 245 (+29).
Madison Frerking came in 37
th with a total of 246 (+30), while
Elodie Yates finished 41
st with a 248 (+32).
Dabin Cleary rounded out the squad with a two-day total of 251 (+35).
