INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Two members of the UIW fencing team have qualified for NCAA Nationals, set for Indianapolis, spanning March 21-27.
Freshman foiler
Myrka Boyd automatically qualified as she won a field of 10 fencers last week at the NCAA Qualifiers at Stanford University, becoming the first female fencer to qualify for nationals in program history.
Junior epee
Alexander Sless earned his second-straight qualification as he finished fourth in the largest field of the day at Stanford. Last season, Sless earned a spot in nationals in UIW's maiden season.
NCAA Nationals, which will last six days from March 21-27, features 144 fencers. Fencers will compete in a round-robin format of five-touch bouts. After the round-robin, the top four finishers in each weapon will fence in semifinal 15-touch bouts, with the winning fencers to determine first and second places, and the non-advancing fencers being awarded a tie for third place.
