Cardinals Garner Southland Accolades

Cole, Hardy, Quintero, Love, and Men’s DMR recognized by the conference

FRISCO, Texas – The UIW men's and women's track and field teams were recognized for their athletic achievements at last weekend's indoor championships, as four student-athletes and one team earned seven awards, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday.
 
Clinton Cole took home two accolades, Second Team in the 200m and Third Team in the 60m. The sophomore from Temple, Texas, set a school record in the 200 with a time of 21.40, only trailing Northwestern State's Amir James who set a new meet record with a time of 21.15. In the 60m, Cole broke another school record by finishing third overall with a time of 6.73.
 
Deion Hardy earned Second Team honors in the Mile, as he ran a PR 4:11.87, finishing only .01 from winning the race. Jorge Quintero finished third overall with a time of 4:14.48. Hardy was named Third Team in the 800m, as he ran a 1:52.06.
 
The men's Distance Medley Relay team consisting of Quintero, Collin Sepulveda, Cameron White, and Garett Cortez, broke a school record with a time of 10:00.17, which was eight seconds faster than the previous mark, earning them Third Team honors in the event.
 
On the women's side, Jerica Love was named Third Team in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.50.
 
Below are the individual winners for the conference. The Cardinals open the outdoor season hosting their UIW Quad Thursday and Friday, March 16-17 at Benson Stadium.
