THIBODAUX, La. – Fresh of a first-place finish at the 2017 James S. Litz Memorial Golf Tournament, the University of the Incarnate Word men's golf team took third in the Atchafalaya Intercollegiate, paced by
Jeff Conflitti's individual championship performance.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Cardinals shot rounds of 281, 300 and 293 for a total of 874 (+10) over the two-day three-round event, coming up just one stroke shy of second place. UIW was tied for first after the opening round, before falling behind in the second. A strong third-round effort allowed the Cardinals to climb the standings late.
Louisiana Monroe won the event with a combined score of 853 (-11), followed by Central Arkansas, with a total of 873 (+9). UIW beat out UT-Rio Grande Valley, Mobile, New Orleans and Texas Southern.
The individual title ended in a three-way tie between Hogan Arey (ULM), Joao Girao (ULM) and
Jeff Conflitti (UIW). All three players shot a three-round total of 213 (-3).
LEADERS
Conflitti led the Cardinals with rounds of 67, 73 and 73.
Remy Huston earned eighth, shooting rounds of 67, 77 and 73 for a total of a 217 (+1).
Kevin Smith took 15
th and
Caden Wylie came in 22
nd, shooting 220 (+4) and 224 (+8) respectively.
Cole Solis rounded out the squad with a score of 230 (+14), finishing 35
th.

UIW will next head to Houston for the All-American Intercollegiate hosted by HBU (Feb. 27-28).
