LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Marjan Gamsjager, a member of The University of the Incarnate Word men's soccer team, was named Honorable Mention All-Western Athletic Conference, the league announced Tuesday evening at the annual awards dinner on the eve of the conference tournament.
"Marjan was brought in to the team as an older and experienced player to help nurture our younger guys as we identified him as a leader," said head coach
Vince Martinez. "He made a decent impact this season and when he got injured midway through conference, the team severely missed his presence up top, as he gave our game a different dimension. He should be proud of this recognition and look to build on it further for next season as we look for him to take ownership of the team and help us achieve our goal of making the WAC tournament in 2018."
Gamsjager, a forward from Linz, Austria, is a graduate student working towards his masters degree in sports management. He led the team with three goals and was tied for the squad's high of six points. He appeared in and started 14 matches with nearly 1200 minutes played. He scored the game winner in a 2-1 win at Central Arkansas on Aug. 27. He also registered goals at conference leader Air Force and the season finale against UTRGV.
