COLLEGE STATION, Texas – History will be made Friday morning when The University of the Incarnate Word men's and women's cross country teams toe the line at Watts Cross Country Park in College Station.
The Cardinal runners will be the first participants to compete in an NCAA postseason event since the transition from NCAA Division II to Division I four years ago, as they will take part in the NCAA South Central Regional.
STARTING LINE
The women's 6k begins at 9:15 a.m., with the men's 10k to follow at 10:15 a.m. The top two teams and the first four finishers in the race not associated with those two teams will advance to the NCAA Championships, held Saturday, Nov. 18 in Louisville, Ky.
The Dale Watts '71 Cross Country Course is located within the Hildebrand Equine Complex at 3242 F and B Road. The facility is accessible from F and B Road off the corner intersection with 2818.
Fans are asked to park in the Equine Complex parking lot and make a short walk to the start/finish line.
BELL LAP
UIW last competed two weeks ago at the Southland Conference Championships in Abilene, Texas. The men placed third overall, the highest finish in program history, as juniors
Garett Cortez and
Deion Hardy earned First Team All-SLC accolades as they placed fourth and fifth, respectively.
The ladies finished sixth overall and were led by senior
Keila Rodriguez and junior
Danielle Martinez. Rodriguez nearly earned an Honorable Mention finish, as she placed 16
th, while Martinez crossed the line in 17
th place. With a pair of top runners banged up two weeks ago in conference, the Cardinals look to run strongly at regionals.

The NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships are slated for Nov. 18 from the E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Ky.
