FRISCO, Texas – University of the Incarnate Word running back
Desmond Hite was named Southland Conference Special Teams Player of the Week, the league office publicized Monday.
The announcement marks the first player of the week recognition for Hite, and the second for the Cardinals this season. Junior defensive end
Darrius Montgomery garnered the honor on Oct. 2.
A Cypress, Texas native and Cypress Falls H.S. product, Hite tied a Southland Conference record on Saturday against No. 23 Nicholls with his third kick return touchdown of the year. He had 128 yards on three returns against the Colonels, including a 100-yard kick return score that came as Hite fielded a kickoff 5-yards deep in his own end zone. Hite has registered return touchdowns of 100, 100 and 96 yards this season, with three games remaining in the 2017 campaign.
Hite currently ranks second in the Southland Conference in return average and third in the league in all-purpose yards.
