HOUSTON, Texas- The University of the Incarnate Word's men's tennis team was up to the task against formidable opponents, complete with a doubles championship from
Sebastian Mortier and
Gabriel Evans.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Â
Evans and Mortier ran the gauntlet in the Blue Draw, defeating Tulane's Chase Schupp and Eric Wagner, 8-3. They then got the better of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's brother duo of Francois Kellerman and Okkie Kellerman in the semifinals, 8-5, before defeating Texas Tech's Jackson Cobb and Matheus Leite in the championship, 8-7 (7).Â
Evans and Mortier competed in the Singles Blue Draw. Evans lost the first round to TT'S Leite 2-6, 7-6(5). Mortier turned things around and defeated MIA's Tatsuki Shimamoto in the first round 6-3, 0-6, 10-5. But he fell short in the second round to Tulane's Time Tuetzel 6-4, 6-3.

Joey Vatanadilok and
Ivanhoe Lissanevitch both lost their first rounds in the Singles Gray Draw. Vatanadilok was defeated by TT's Cobb 6-0, 6-3 but won the second round against Rice's Daniel Warren 6-3, 6-4. He went on to win the third round 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 against TT's Pyry Kyrkkonen. Lissanevitch was defeated in the first round by Air Force's Mack Galvin 6-0, 6-1. He lost the second round to Rice's Mohamed Abdel-Aziz 7-6(4), 2-1, ret.

Next was the Singles Owl Draw where
Zachary Vander Heiden and
Caleb Dyer each lost their first rounds. Heiden fell short to AF's Tadhg Collins 6-4, 2-6, 10-4 and had a bye in the second round. Dyer lost to UNCW's Michael Morphy 6-3, 6-3 but came back and won the second round against Rice's Jared Aiman 6-2, 7-5. In the third round he came close to MIA's Niclas Genovese 7-5, 2-6, 6-4.

In the Doubles Gray Draw on Friday, Vatanadilok and Dyer teamed up but fell short to MIA's Shimamoto/ Clark 8-5 in the first round.

In the Doubles Round Robin Draw, Ahmic and Vander Heiden competed strongly and won both rounds. They defeated MIA's Genovese/ Kuhlman 7-8(2) and Morris/ Aiman (Den/ Rice) 4-8.
