FRISCO, TEXAS – The University of Incarnate Word softball team wrapped up the 2016 season on Saturday with a big 6-2 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus-Christi and today, the Southland Conference has announced the 2016 All-Conference teams.
           
The Cardinals placed two players on the all-conference third team starting with junior Mikaela Flores (Lockhart/Lockhart HS), who also earned all-conference honors in 2014 as well.  Flores ended the season batting .350 with three homeruns and 15 RBI's while also having a .540 slugging percentage and only five strikeouts in 100 at bats.
           
Alex Alonzo (San Antonio/Smithson Valley HS) also made the all-conference third team as the designated player.  Alonzo led the Cardinals with six homeruns and 28 RBI's and she finished the 2016 campaign with a .274 batting average.
           
Danielle Ramirez (San Antonio/Marshall HS) and Shelbi Swenson (Elgin/Elgin HS) each received an honorable mention for the all-conference voting for outfield and third base, respectively.  Ramirez led the team with a .386 batting average, 22 runs and 18 stolen bases.  Swenson hit .294 with 13 driven in and a team-high 88 defensive assists.

For the individual awards in the conference, Erika Piancastelli from McNeese State University won player of the year and hitter of the year honors while Hannah Haydel from Nicholls won the pitcher of the year.
