Cardinals Sweep Weekly Track Awards

FRISCO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word swept the Southland Conference Track & Field Athlete of the Week honors presented by UniversalCoin.com, the announced on Monday.  Freshman Clint Cole was named the Southland Men's Track Athlete of the Week, junior Jacob Ulbricht earned Southland Men's Field Athlete of the Week and sophomore Sarea Alexander took home Southland Women's Field Athlete of the Week honors.

Cole had a strong tune-up meet at the Bobcat Classic in San Marcos, Texas.  After running the 100-meter dash in 10.62 seconds, the Temple, Texas (Temple HS), native anchored the team's 4x100-meter relay.  The relay team finished second in a season-best time of 40.24, which ranks second in the conference.  This is Cole's second weekly honor of the season.

Ulbricht set a new personal record in the pole vault for the third time this year with a mark of 16-8.75.  He continues to close in on the school record in which he is less than two inches away.  The Spring Branch, Texas (Smithson Valley HS), native was third among collegiate athletes at the Bobcat Classic, just behind two vaulters from the University of Texas.

Alexander landed the best long jump in the Southland Conference this year in her final regular-season tune up.  The San Antonio, Texas (MacArthur HS), native was the top collegiate jumper at the Bobcat Classic after a leap of 19-11.  She was the Southland Conference Indoor Track and Field Champion in the long jump and will try to make it two titles in a row this weekend at the Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
