SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word had a pair of student-athletes named to the 2016 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District VII Men's and Women's At-Large Teams on Thursday. Swimmer
Ashley Wayman (Universal City/Judson HS) made the women's team while golfer
Austin Wylie (Boerne/Boerne HS) made the men's team.
Wayman recently graduated with a degree in accounting from UIW although she has one more year of athletic eligibility remaining. She has a perfect 4.00 grade point average (GPA). She swam the sprint freestyle and both backstroke events for the Cardinals. Her best times in the 100 and 200 backstroke came at the CCSA Championships where she hit the wall in 57.61 and 2:06.10, respectively. She swam on the team's top 200-yard freestyle relay team this year at the Iowa Hawkeye Invitational. She is a three-time member of the CCSA All-Academic Team.
Wylie also graduated in the past week with a degree in accounting and has a 3.96 GPA. He was named to the Texas Wesleyan Invitational and The Classic and The Tribute All-Tournament Teams during the season. He finished ninth at the Southland Conference Championship and was named to the Southland Third Team following the season. He led the team with a season scoring average of 73.85 and had four top ten finishes. He holds the school record for most career competitive rounds played.
Wayman and Wylie will both now advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. In order to be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA at his/her current institution. They must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's competitions.
