SAN ANTONIO, TX – Tickets are on sale for the annual Student Athlete Advisory Council All-Sports Banquet, hosted by University of the Incarnate Word Cardinals Club on Sunday, May 1 at 6 p.m. inside McDermott Convocation Center.
The banquet will honor student-athletes for their academic and athletic success throughout the 2015-16 academic year. Student-athletes that have completed their four years of eligibility will also be recognized and gifted for their commitment to their sport.
Awards include the Cardinal Fire Award, which is selected by UIW coaches, and is presented to the student-athlete that has achieved outstanding success in their respective sport and that embodies UIW mission, followed by the Cardinal Spirit Award, which is given to the team that has shown the most support at games, athletic functions, and SAAC participation, and is voted by SAAC. The Pull Tab Award is given to a team to that has collected the largest amount of pull tabs to be given to the Ronald McDonald house to aid children with cancer, and finally the coveted Community Service Award honors a team that that has accumulated the most hours of individual and team community service by displaying leadership and action in fostering community service on campus and in the community. Meanwhile, the athletic department selects its Male and Female Athlete of the Year and Student-Athlete of the Year honorees.
The keynote address will be delivered by
John Williams, Director of Athletics, while Gabe Farias, President and CEO of the West San Antonio Chamber of Commerce will serve as the emcee. The event will culminate with speaking engagements from UIW coaches and Cardinals Club leadership. The incoming SAAC representatives will also be announced, while out going SAAC President Karly Brightwell will introduce the new president who will also address the audience.
