SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word football team is entering its fourth season as a member of NCAA Division I and third season in the Southland Conference this fall.
The Cardinals went 6-5 with a 5-4 record in the conference in 2015 and finished in fourth place overall. Their schedule for 2016 features six home games at Benson Stadium.
UIW opens the season at home on September 3 against former Lone Star Conference rival Texas A&M-Kingsville at 6 p.m. They hit the road for the next two weekends at Northwestern State and Nicholls to start Southland Conference play.
The Cardinals return home on September 24 at 6 p.m. against McNeese State, the defending conference champions. On October 1, they make the short drive to San Marcos to play Texas State, an FBS school.
Starting on October 8, the Cardinals will play four of their final six games at home. They start with last year's FCS national semifinalist Sam Houston State at 6 p.m. on October 8. After a bye week, Incarnate Word travels to Abilene Christian for an October 22 showdown.
The Cardinals play back-to-back weeks at home on October 29 and November 5. They start with Stephen F. Austin on October 29 at 6 p.m. and then they will play Southeastern Louisiana on November 5 at 2:30 p.m. as part of Homecoming Week.
The season closes with a road game at Lamar on November 12 and then a Thursday night home game against Houston Baptist on November 17 at 7 p.m.
All game times are tentative and subject to change due to contracts with Southland Conference television partners.
