SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – University of the Incarnate Word sophomore Jamarkese Williams (Temple/Temple HS) was named the Southland Conference Men's Track Athlete of the Week the league announced Wednesday.
Williams performed well on and off the track at the Islander Opener. He won the 200 meters in 21.39 and the high jump with a clearance of 6-7.5. He ran the opening leg on the 4x100 team that finished in second place. He is currently ranked second in the 200 and 4x100 in the conference and third in the high jump.
Williams and the rest of the UIW track and field team will in action on Thursday and Friday at the UIW Quadrangle Meet at Benson Stadium. On Thursday, the meet begins at 1 p.m. with the long jump, pole vault, shot put and hammer throw. The throwing events will be contested at the UIW Northeast Facilities located at the corner of Basse and McCullough. The javelin will start at 3:30 p.m.
On Thursday evening, the 3,000 meters begins at 7 p.m. and then the 1500 meters will be run at 7:30 p.m.
The final field events of the meet will start at 10 a.m. on Friday with the triple jump, discus throw and high jump.
The track events start at 1 p.m. on Friday with the 110-meter hurdles and will be followed by the 4x100-meter relay, 400 meters, 800 meters, 100 meters, 400-meter hurdles, 200 meters and 4x400-meter relay.
