Three Cardinals Earn All-Conference Honors

FRISCO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word women's track and field team had three members earn all-Southland Conference honors for the indoor season the conference office announce Monday.

The three Cardinals to take home post season honors were sophomore Sarea Alexander (San Antonio/MacArthur HS), senior Rainy Castaneda (Laredo/United HS) and senior Jasmine Waring (San Antonio/Randolph HS).  Alexander was the lone conference champion for UIW thanks to a leap of 19-4.5 in the long jump to earn first team honors.  Castaneda finished as the runner-up in the 3,000 meters at the conference meet and took home a second team citation.  Waring tied for first in the high jump, but was slotted in third place due to number of misses.  She earned third team honors after taking home second team honors last year.

The Southland Conference women's individual award winners were as follows:
Female Athlete of the Year: Danielle Demas, Sam Houston State
Female Outstanding Field Events: Ashley Jenkins, Sam Houston State
Female Outstanding Running Events: Danielle Demas, Sam Houston State
Female Freshman of the Year: Silvia LaTella, Lamar
Women's Coach of the Year: Dave Self, Sam Houston State.
