SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word swimming and diving teams swept the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (CCSA) athlete of the week awards the conference announced on Tuesday.
Sophomore
Alona Kyselova (Kiev, Ukraine/Tarasa Shevchenko) and freshman
Beau Fusilier (Georgetown/Home School) were named the women's and men's swimmer of the week, respectively, for their performances at a meet hosted by UC San Diego. Kyselova won the 400-yard individual medley in a time of 4:29.13, took fourth in the 200-yard freestyle and was fifth in the 500-yard freestyle. Fusilier won all three individual events he swam, the 200-yard freestyle, 200-yard butterfly and the 400-yard individual medley. He set a pool record in the 400 IM with a time of 4:02.73.
Sophomore
Brendan Schaffer (Charlotte, NC/South Mecklenburg HS) won the CCSA Men's Diver of the Week award. He swept the diving events at UC San Diego. He scored 242.00 points in the 1-meter springboard and 249.75 in the 3-meter springboard.
This was the second time Kyselova has been the CCSA Women's Swimmer of the Week and third time Schaffer has been the CCSA Men's Diver of the Week in their careers.
The UIW men's swim team returns to the pool on January 12 at home against SMU while the women are back in action January 14-16 at the Austin Grand Prix.
