FRISCO, TEXAS – University of the Incarnate Word senior
Scott Shaw (San Antonio/Churchill HS) was named the Southland Conference Men's Golfer of the Month for September presented by UniversalCoin.com, the league office announced Wednesday.
Shaw started the fall season by running away with the Texas Wesleyan Invitational, Sept. 14-15, in Fort Worth, Texas, after posting an 8-under par 208 to win by six strokes. The senior tied the UIW record in the second round with a 7-under par 65. He helped the Cardinals finish second overall in the first tournament of the year. Shaw followed that showing with a second-place finish at the HBU Husky Invitational, Sept. 21-22, with a 2-under par 211. In six rounds, Shaw averaged 69.83 strokes, with five rounds of par or below and a low round of 65.
Honorable mention this month goes to McNeese State sophomore Bob MacIntyre and Central Arkansas freshman Luis Obiols. To receive honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland sports information directors.
Each school's sports information director nominates and votes for golfers of the month, though is not permitted to vote for his or her own player.
Shaw and the Cardinals are back in action on October 19-20 in Las Cruces, NM at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate. Shaw is the first ever UIW men's or women's golfer to earn Southland Conference Golfer of the Month honors.
