NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA – For the first time since becoming an NCAA Division I program, the University of the Incarnate Word men's and women's cross country programs are both ranked in the top 15 in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association South Central Region polls this week.
The UIW women moved up to 14
th in the region and are one of four Southland Conference teams in the rankings. Arkansas, Texas and Baylor hold down the top three spots in the poll. The Cardinals made the move into the top 15 thanks to a strong performance at the 40
th Annual Rice Invitational last Friday when they finished second.
The UIW men's team slipped into the regional poll at 15
th and is one of six Southland schools in the regional poll.
Both of the Cardinal teams will head out of the region for their next meet. They will compete at the Roy Griak Invitational hosted by the University of Minnesota on September 26.
