PORT ST. LUCIE, FLORIDA – Led by junior Austin Wylie (Boerne/Boerne HS), the University of the Incarnate Word men's golf team closed out the 2014-15 season on a high note at the 29^th PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championships played at the PGA Golf Club Wanamaker Course on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Wylie carded the low round of the day with a 3-under par 69 that propelled the Cardinals into second place.  Pedro Martinez (Robstown/Robstown HS) fired an even-par 72 while Chris Martinez (McAllen/McAllen HS) and Kevin Smith (Corpus Christi/Incarnate Word Academy) posted scores of 74 and 75, respectively. 

The Cardinals improved in each round of the tournament starting with a 310 on the first day that put them in fifth place.  They moved into third place after a second round score of 300 and then all the way to second place after their final round 290.  It was the lowest team round of the tournament and left them only seven shots behind the champion, Alabama State.  UIW entered the final round 18 strokes behind ASU.

Individually, Wylie finished in a tie for second place overall with a 5-over par 221 for the 54 holes.  Smith finished in a tie for eighth place with 227 strokes.

Alabama State won the team title with a 301-291-301=893 showing while the Cardinals finished with an even 900 strokes.  Tennessee State was third, 10 strokes behind UIW at 910 while Bethune-Cookman and Florida A&M tied for fourth with 912 strokes.

Chicago State and North Carolina Central tied for sixth with 924 strokes and they were followed by Savannah State (936), Maryland-Eastern Shore (940), Texas Southern (945), Hampton (1002) and Prairie View A&M (1003).
