IRVING, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word football team had four players named to the 2015 National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame (NFF) Hampshire Honor Society, which is comprised of college football players from all divisions of play who each maintained a cumulative 3.2 GPA or better throughout their college career.
The Cardinals who earned the award were seniors
Jason Everding (Bismarck, ND/Century HS),
Nick Ginn (Corpus Christ/Calallen HS),
Casey Jennings (Fremont, CA/Washington HS) and
Devin Threat (Mexia/Mexia HS). A total of 817 players from 278 schools qualified for membership in the society's ninth year, setting a new record for number of schools represented in the history of the program, which began in 2007.
The qualifications for membership in the NFF Hampshire Honor Society include:
- Being a starter or a significant contributor in one's last year of eligibility at an NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision, Football Championship Subdivision, Division II, Division III or an NAIA college or university;
- Achieving a 3.2 cumulative grade point average throughout entire course of undergraduate study; and
- Meeting all NCAA/NAIA-mandated progress towards degree requirements.
Last year, the Cardinals had six players granted membership in the society. This year's group includes a pair of four-year players in Ginn and Threat and a pair of two-year players who transferred from junior colleges, Everding and Jennings. Overall, the Cardinals had more players named to the NFF Hampshire Honor Society than the rest of the Southland Conference combined. Both Nicholls and Sam Houston State had one player named to the list.
