SAN MARCOS, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word track & field teams traveled to the Bobcat Classic on Saturday at the Texas State Track and Field Complex.
The UIW 400-meter relay teams ran very well. The women's team of
Shaneve Swift (San Antonio/Clark HS),
LaShawnda Simmons (Pflugerville/Pflugerville HS),
Jasmine Williams (Huntsville/Huntsville HS) and
Courtney Miller (San Antonio/Stevens HS) ran a season best time of 45.77 to take third place. It was the second fastest time in school history behind last year's Southland Conference performance. The men's team of
Jamarkese Williams (Temple/Temple HS),
Jordan Epps (Grand Prairie/Bishop Dunne HS),
Randalle Williams-Diaz (Aubrey/Ryan HS) and
Chris DeWitt (San Antonio/Churchill HS) set the school record with a time of 40.02 to finish in second place behind a professional team from Antigua and Barbados.
The rest of the women on the track were led by junior
Rainy Castaneda (Laredo/United South HS). She finished second in the 1500 meters by running a personal record time of 4:40.87.
Kathleen Hoffman (San Antonio/SACS) ran one of the top times in school history in the 5000 meters with a time of 18:08.85. Simmons followed her performance in the 4x100-relay with the third best time in school history in the 200 meters. She clocked a time of 24.23.
Jasmine Waring (San Antonio/Randolph HS) continued her excellent junior season in the high jump. She won the event with a clearance of 5-7.
Epps led the UIW men in the sprinting events. He set personal records in the 100 (10.65) and in the 200 meters (21.45). Freshman
Deion Hardy (Temple/Temple HS) ran a time of 3:57.75 in the 1500 meters, his fastest time of the year.
"Overall, we had a pretty good day," said UIW head coach
Derek Riedel. "As we get closer to conference we are focusing on sharpening and keeping our intensity high and taking our competitiveness to another level. The 4x100 relays,
