SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of Incarnate Word men's basketball and football teams helped elementary school students celebrate a dedication to consistent school attendance at Long's Creek Elementary School on Wednesday.
Long's Creek has an NBA program that stands for "Never Been Absent." It is a program that rewards the students with perfect attendance over the span of nine weeks with a day of fun activity. Each grade was separated and awarded slots with members of both UIW teams in the basketball gym. Also in attendance were members of the boys' basketball team from James Madison High School.
Amber Jankowski, formally Garcia, is one of the counselors at Long's Creek that organized the event. She is a former Cardinal who was a utility player on the softball team for UIW in the early 2000's. In 2004, she was the third Cardinal to be named to the Heartland President's Honor Roll.
