AUSTIN, TEXAS – Senior linebacker
Padyn Giebler (Ivan/Stephenville HS) became the second Division I All-American for the University of the Incarnate Word football program on Thursday when he was named a 2015 Division I Football First Team Academic All-America® by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) of Thursday.
Giebler was a four-year starter for the Cardinals at inside linebacker. As a senior, he accumulated 71 tackles, 4.0 tackles for loss, a sack, an interception and a fumble recovery for a touchdown. He was the Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week once during the year and helped the team to a 6-5 record and a fourth place finish in the Southland Conference. He finished his career with 228 tackles putting him third on the school's career tackles list. He is a two-time Academic All-District® VII First Team pick was on the Southland Conference All-Academic Team in 2014.
Giebler is an engineering major who has a 3.82 grade point average. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® Division I Football teams are made up of student-athletes from FBS and FCS schools. Giebler is one of two Southland Conference student-athletes to earn Academic All-America® honors this year.
