SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word had two student-athletes voted to the NCAA Division I Football Academic All-District® VII first team on Thursday. The award is voted on by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Senior linebacker
Padyn Giebler (Ivan/Stephenville HS) and junior defensive back
Daryl Irby (Pearland/Dawson HS) were the two members of the Cardinals named to the team.
Giebler is a two-time member of the Academic All-District® VII first team. He is third on the team with 57 tackles this season and he has added 3.0 tackles for loss and a sack. Last year, he was on the Southland Conference All-Academic Team and he was honorable mention all-conference. He is fourth in school history with 214 career tackles. The four-year starter is an engineering management major with a 3.82 grade point average.
Irby started the first seven games of the year before missing his last game with an injury. He has 25 tackles and recovered a pair of fumbles. Last year, he was on the Southland Conference All-Academic Team. He is a management major with a 3.79 grade point average.
In order to be eligible for Academic All-District® honors, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore in their second year at their current institution. The student-athlete must have played in at least 50 percent of the games and hold at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average. Both Giebler and Irby will advance to the Academic All-America® ballot.
