SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – University of the Incarnate Word senior Myke Tavarres (Lake Oswego, OR/Lake Ridge HS) was named to the 2015 College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) FCS Linebacker Award Watch List and the STATS FCS Defensive Player of the Year Watch List on Wednesday.

Tavarres is playing only one season for UIW, but he is making the most of it as he fills the stat sheet from game to game.  The outside linebacker has 19.5 tackles for loss, the most of any FCS player while the Cardinals go through its transition period from Division II.  His monster campaign has included a season-high 4.5 tackles for loss against Abilene Christian and a 3.0 sack performance against nationally ranked Sam Houston State.  He has 87 tackles, 6.5 sacks, five pass breakups, five quarterback hurries and one forced fumble for his Southland Conference squad.

Tavarres was a two-time all-conference selection at the College of Siskiyous before spending one year at Arkansas.  There are currently 32 players in contention for the CFPA FCS Linebacker Award including three players from the SLC.  He is one of 25 players on the STATS FCS Watch list that included four members of the Southland Conference.

Tavarres and the Cardinals head to Southland Conference rival Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday for a 6:07 p.m. kickoff.
