SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – University of the Incarnate Word senior Maddy Buhler (Victoria/St. Joseph's HS) fired the low round of the day, but the women's golf team still finished in third place at the UIW Fall Invitational played at The Republic Golf Club on Monday and Tuesday. (Results)

Buhler posted a 1-under par 70 in the second and final round of the annual UIW home tournament.  She carded five birdies on the par-71, 6037-yard course one day after shooting a 79 that included no birdies.  She made the move from a tie for 15th place heading into the final round all the way to fourth place by the end of the tournament.

Unfortunately for the Cardinals, Buhler was the only player to break 80 in the starting lineup.  As a team, they posted a 316 to finish the tournament at 626 strokes, good enough for third place.  Stephen F. Austin won the tournament for a second year in a row with a 296-301=597 tally.  They were one stroke better than St. Edward's who finished at 295-303=598.

It was Murray State Community College in fourth place at 331-339=670 and they were followed by Texas A&M-Kingsville, 350-333=683 and Texas A&M-International, 342-349=691.

The Cardinals had four players compete as individuals and three of them would have been scoring players had they been in the lineup.  Lizeth Escobedo (Killeen/Holy Trinity Catholic HS) posted a strong round of 77 that included three birdies.

Johany Rivera of St. Edward's won the individual title with a 2-under par 68-72=140.  She was one stroke ahead of Stephen F. Austin's Jessica White who posted a 69-72=141 for 1-under par.  Brianna Vogel, playing as a medalist for St. Edward's, finished in third place with a 75-73=148 total.

The Cardinals will close out their fall schedule next week at the Fred Marx Invitational hosted by University of Louisiana-Monroe.
