SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – University of the Incarnate Word third year softball coach
Amanda Gamboa signed five players to National Letters of Intent during the early signing period.
The five signees are all current high school students who will attend UIW starting in the fall of 2015. The signing class consists of Shelbi Cummins, Chandler Hoagland, Jade Lassatter, Jessica Rodriguez and Alexis Santos.
"I am excited to bring these versatile athletes to the Cardinal Family," said Gamboa. "We are adding even more speed and power to our line up with these multi-positioned athletes. Their solid work ethics, competitive nature, love for the game and their drive to succeed will help us go a long way. Each athlete brings something special to the table and I will be looking forward to seeing what they will accomplish at the next level."
Cummins is a 5-6 catcher and middle infielder from Richmond, Texas where she plays for Foster High School. She is a three-time all-district selection and has hit over .500 in each of her three seasons. She has led the team to one State playoff appearance. She is the daughter of Shawn Cummins and is undecided on her field of study at UIW.
Hoagland is a 5-10 first baseman from Flower Mound, Texas and she plays for Flower Mound High School. She led her team to the 2013 District and Regional titles and a berth in the State semifinals. She led the team in home runs and RBI's in 2012 and was the team MVP in 2011. She is also the vice president of FCA and was the 2014 One Dream award winner. She is the daughter of David Hoagland and Nesa Grider-Hoagland and is the sister of former University of Texas start and current team USA member, Taylor Hoagland. She plans to study business at UIW.
Lassetter is a 5-3 middle infielder from Round Rock, Texas and attends Stony Point High School. She was a second team all-District 16-5A selection at shortstop as a sophomore and first team choice as a junior. She was her team's Golden Glove winner each of the past two years and the team's Newcomer of the Year in 2012. She has helped the team win a pair of District titles. She was an Academic All-District 16-5A picks in 2014. She is the daughter of Larissa Baca and Tim Lassetter and plans to study physical therapy. She has two sisters who have played collegiate softball and a brother who played college football.
Rodriguez is a 5-6 pitcher from Conroe, Texas and will graduate from Oak Ridge High School this year. She was a Second Team All-District 14-5A pick in 2014 and was her team's most valuable player. She is the daughter of Ricky and Irma Rodriguez and plans to study physical therapy.
Santos is a 5-5 outfielder from Plano, Texas and she plays for Plano Senior High School. She was the team's defensive player of the year last year and earned Second Team All-District 10-5A honors. She led the team two a pair of Area championships in the past two seasons. She is the daughter of Gilbert and Teresa Santos and is undecided on her field of study.
