The University of the Incarnate Word recently conducted its annual fall commencement and as is becoming the norm the athletic department was well represented across the range of degrees awarded.
 
Some 800 degrees were conferred by University President Dr. Louis J. Agnese Jr., and 43 went to those who have had close ties to Cardinals athletics.  Every time 18 graduates accepted a diploma one was an athlete or an athletic graduate assistant.  And 18 per cent of the newly graduated athletes did so with honors.
 
UIW sponsors 14 intercollegiate sports which include 21 teams, men's or women's or both.  Of those 21 teams 20 had a representative receive a degree.
