SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – University of the Incarnate Word junior linebacker Padyn Giebler (Ivan/Stephenville HS) was named to the Capital One Academic All-District VII football first team.

In order to be eligible for academic all-district honors, a player must be at least sophomore academic standing, have at least a 3.30 grade point average and play in at least 50 percent of the team's games.  The awards are voted on by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).  First team academic all-district honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America® ballot that will be selected later this month.

Giebler leads the Cardinals with 56 tackles including 3.0 tackles for loss and a sack.  He has had at least eight tackles in four games this year, including a pair of 11-tackle performances at North Dakota State and Northwestern State.  He has 137 tackles and 7.0 tackles for loss in his career.  He was the Cardinals nominee for the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team this year.

Giebler and the Cardinals play at home against Southland Conference rival Sam Houston State tomorrow at 6 p.m. at Benson Stadium.
