UIW Soccer Teams Earn Team Academic Award

KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI – The University of the Incarnate Word men's and women's soccer teams were both recognized by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) for excelling not only on the field, but also in the classroom.

Both UIW teams earned the NSCAA Team Academic Award for 2013-14.  The women's team reported a 3.23 G.P.A. while the men's team posted a 3.15 G.P.A.

To be selected for this honor, a team must post a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.  There were 280 men's teams and 581 women's teams, for a total 861, that earned the Team Academic Award for the 2013-14 academic year. The University of the Incarnate Word, along with 190 other universities, had both men's and women's teams qualify for the academic award.

The NSCAA is the largest soccer coaches' organization at every level in the world.  Most of the members are coaches but it also includes referees, administrators, and other members of the soccer society.

The UIW women were one of six teams in the Southland Conference to win the award joining Central Arkansas, Houston Baptist, Sam Houston State, Southeastern Louisiana and Stephen F. Austin.  The UIW men were one of five teams in the Western Athletic Conference to win the award joining Houston Baptist, Missouri-Kansas City, Seattle U and Utah Valley.
