SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball team had two players earn a weekly award on Monday. Junior
Kyle Hittle (New Braunfels/New Braunfels HS) was named the Southland Conference Player of the Week while freshman
Jontrell Walker (Aurora, IL/West Aurora HS) was College Sports Madness' pick as the top player in the conference for the week.
Hittle earned the league's weekly honor after leading the Cardinals to a 2-0 week, including a win at Princeton. Against Huston-Tillotson, he scored 23 points and had eight rebounds, two assists and a block. In the Cardinals' 79-68 win against Princeton, Hittle accounted for 14 points, eight rebounds and a career-high four blocks. In two games, Hittle averaged 18.5 points, eight rebounds, 2.5 blocks and two assists.
Walker was also excellent in both games. He had 10 points, two assists and two steals in the win over Huston-Tillotson. He came back with the best game of his young career at Princeton. He scored 21 points, grabbed six rebounds and had three assists. He was 10-for-11 at the foul line and was 8-for-8 in the final 53 seconds to help salt away the victory. He averaged 15.5 points per game and was 12-of-13 at the charity stripe.
The Cardinals are in action tonight at 7 p.m. at home against Texas A&M-International for their final game before the Thanksgiving break.
