BEAUMONT, Texas – The University of the Incarnate Word volleyball team swept Lamar University for the second time this season. The Cardinals topped their opponents 25-19, 25-18, 25-22.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Our very own Cardinals went on a six point streak to take a 19-13 advantage in the first set. The squad registered 12 kills and five errors to be more efficient over Lamar who also tallied 12 kills, but made eight errors.
UIW had its best attacking percentage of the night (.268) in the second. The score was close through the first half of the set, but the UIW Cardinals were able to hold off Lamar.
Hope Kelley registered six kills to lead the team to a 25-18 finish.
Not wanting to end the match in three, Lamar opened up the set with four straight points. The team went on to have a 4-9 lead over their visiting opponents. The UIW retaliation got the squad back in the game and eventually a 25-22 set victory. As a team, UIW ended the night with 42 kills, 16 errors and a .239 attacking percentage. Lamar mustered 34 kills and made 21 errors for a .121 attacking percentage.
LEADERS
Julia Monday led the team offensively with 10 kills.
Autumn Lockley contributed 9 kills and led the Cardinal defense with 10 digs.
Madison Williams paced the team with 31 assists and
Sarea Alexander registered four blocks.
Tomar Thomas tallied 14 kills for Lamar and Dannisha House followed with six.

UIW hosts Abilene Christian for another round of competition on Thursday, Nov. 9 The match will begin at 7 p.m. in the McDermott Center.

The Cardinals will return to the McDermott Center Saturday, Nov. 11 to face Sam Houston State University on Senior Day. The match will start at 11 a.m.
